We are very proud of our founder and Executive Director’s work Miriam Wong. Her mission continues to inspire us as an organization and as a community 26 years later. Thank you for this recognition Chamberlin Education Foundation
On their Facebook Page, Chamberlin Education Foundation honors Miriam’s work:
“This Latino Heritage Month, we spotlight the individuals building stronger communities through service and leadership. Today we honor Miriam Wong, Executive Director and founder of The Latina Center in Richmond.
In 1999, Miriam helped establish a Spanish-language, culturally adapted version of Women’s Health Leadership, bringing together 15 peer leaders and four faculty advisors. The program grew out of gatherings in her living room, where women developed into peer leaders, educators, and advocates. The following year, The Latina Center was established as a nonprofit organization. Since then, the center has supported leadership development for Latina women and Latino youth, offering programs that build self-esteem, provide training, and create pathways for community engagement and advocacy.”
